EYES-- PINK EYE, STYES, GENERAL EYE HEALTH
PINK EYE MANAGEMENT:
We had a case of pink eye in our house last month in my almost 2 year old and it was not fun, but we were able to manage it at home with good ol’ breastmilk, probiotics, coconut oil, and sovereign silver, and let it run its course (about 6 days in this case).
WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR:
• You develop pain in one or both eyes.
• You develop a sensitivity to light.
• Your vision becomes blurry.
• Your symptoms continue or worsen.
• You develop a fever and other signs of an infection, such as swollen glands or fatigue.
• You have an eye condition unrelated to conjunctivitis.
Not intended to be medical advice but what I do for my family. Always consult with a trusted HCP.
What has your experience with pink eye been? #erinshealthtalks
Hey friends! Dr. Ashley Mayer here! 👋🏼
I have had a few mamas ask me about the best treatment for Pink Eye lately… and Pink Eye seems to be something that nearly every family experiences at some point. So let’s take a closer “look”…. 👀🤣
What is Pink Eye? (Aka Adenoviral conjunctivitis)
✔️Adenoviral conjunctivitis is a common and contagious viral infection that causes inflammation and reddening of the conjunctiva (white part of the eye).
✔️Usually it starts in one eye and moves to the other after several days.
✔️Other symptoms include watery discharge, a gritty feeling in the eye, itchiness, swollen eyelids, crusted discharge, sticky eyelids, and swollen lymph nodes around the ear and jaw. Adenoviral conjunctivitis usually resolves without treatment in 4-7 days, but can take as long as 2-3 weeks.
Treatment includes reducing pain, antiviral treatment, and keeping everything extra clean. 👀

😢Pain Reduction - A warm or cool tea bag compress of chamomile, black tea or green tea will have anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. Artificial tears or homeopathic eye preparations can also help with redness or pain.
👨👩👧👦Antiviral Treatment- I formulated Nature’s Biotic to be taken at the first sign of viral or bacterial illnesses like conjunctivitis.
*Nature’s Biotic contains the following antibacterial and antiviral herbs: goldenseal, echinacea, licorice, oregon grape, wild indigo, and stevia.
🧼Keep Everything Extra Clean - Pink Eye is very contagious whenever symptoms are present. So it is important to wash hands througly and not touch your eyes. Pillowcases and towels should also be washed daily.
👩🏻⚕️Know when to call a Doctor - Pink Eye is usually not a serious condition and resolves on its own without any lingering effects. If symptoms last longer than two weeks, vision is affected, or symptoms are severe call your doc.

Styes are a fairly common eye infection most often caused by the bacteria staphylococcus. It’s a normal bacteria on our skin, but when it gets trapped in a gland or eye lash follicle, it can cause an infection. They often are painful, red, and swollen, and look like a pimple at the base of your eye lashes (either top or bottom). They can also cause your whole eye lid to swell. We’ve successfully treated several styes at home without any prescription antibiotics, even after being prescribed them by a doctor.
Here’s what we did:
👍🏼Warm compresses 4 times a day for 10-15 minutes each. As your have the compress on your eye, gently massage around the stye to help loosen the gunk up and open up the gland.
👍🏼Colloidal silver drops in the eye every several hours throughout the day.
👍🏼Colloidal silver gel on the stye itself several times a day and at night.
👍🏼Black tea compress. I would make a cup of black tea and then soak a rag in it to use as a compress. Black tea has a high tannin content and helps with swelling as well as provides antibacterial properties. We did this as part of the 4 times a day compresses.
Never try and pop the stye because that can spread the infection. It will usually pop on its own or just go away. Sometimes it can take a few weeks of this for it to go away completely, but you should start to see it healing up.
Daily warm compresses can help avoid them if you are prone to them as well as good hygiene with contacts!
*not medical advice. Ask your doctor if you are concerned and especially if you feel like the infection is spreading or getting worse.
