Migraines are severe debilitating headaches that can severely impact day-to-day life.
Using OTC medications to alleviate symptoms is a temporary solution and doesn’t address WHY you are struggling with migraines in the first place.
This topic is important for me as I personally struggled with migraines for many years of my life.
It was only after I identified the root causes when I found relief.
Migraines are a complex medical condition because they can originate for many different reasons! In fact, they are often considered a threshold disease because it’s of the result of the accumulation of various triggers at once.
Common root causes of migraines:
▶Food sensitivities
Common foods that can trigger migraines include cheese/dairy products, coffee, eggs, alcohol, excess sugar, gluten, preservatives.
▶Blood sugar dysregulation
Skipping meals and riding the blood sugar rollercoaster can be a big migraine trigger for many.
▶Nutrient deficiencies
There have been several nutrient deficiencies correlated with migraines. These include: vitamin B12, niacin, riboflavin, magnesium, CoQ10, carnitine, vitamin D, and alpha-lipoic acid.
▶Gut imbalances
The gut-brain access is being researched more & more. There has been a link found between those with IBS and migraines. 10.3748/wjg.v22.i36.8149
▶Muscle tension
Excess tension in the neck, shoulders, and head can lead to tension migraines.
▶Stress
High levels of cortisol can decrease serotonin levels and low serotonin levels can be linked to a greater chance of migraines
▶Hormones
If you have cyclical migraines, or migraines that come at the same time every month, it could be related to hormone levels. In addition, if there is too much estrogen to progesterone in the body (often referred to as #estrogendominance ), this can also lead to migraines.
▶Environmental toxins
One of the symptoms of toxic overload or a sluggish liver is migraines.
