RSV
We got a crash course in RSV a few weeks ago! I've read that most kids get it by age 2 so we squeezed it in before then. ๐ I think P was also kind enough to share it with me and it wasn't fun!
I am going to share what we did personally and also link some good resources below.
Payson's symptoms were fever, a mix of runny nose and congestion and a surprise ear infection. He did NOT have any lung or breathing issues. He never had nasal flaring, labored breathing, a cough or anything like that. We did have his lungs checked out. RSV can be serious (see posts below) but for us luckily it was just pretty much a cold + fever. The frustrating part was that it just lasted for like 1.5-2 weeks so it was more a frustration with duration.
Fever: We didn't treat the fever. He had a fever for over a week straight pretty much. It got up to 103 for 3 days. I monitored him. He was eating, drinking, sleeping, playing, having wet diapers, etc... so there was no reason to treat. I know it can be scary to see the # on the thermometer get that high (this was his first time having this high of a fever!) but I also know that his body was fighting and I needed to let it do his thing. If he had been uncomfortable, lethargic, not sleeping/eating, etc... I would've done some natural remedies to help support his body. We did give him a lukewarm bath one day but honestly it was because he was stinky and needed a bath. ๐
We used the FridaBaby 3 in 1 thermometer and took all of his temperatures rectally. My mom actually had this thermometer & it is awesome so I have since bought one for us.
Runny Nose/Congestion: At first I just let it drip but I learned a few days in that I needed to be suctioning and using saline to keep things flowing out. I now know to be more proactive next time he starts having a runny nose. We used the Genexa saline and Frida nose suction. If this seems daunting at first, I can reassure you it can be done! When I first got it out Payson was not a fan. I kept showing it to him though and we would pretend to suction his favorite animals and after a while he let me do his nose. It eventually got to a point where he was asking for it! We did this a few times a day. Persistence & patience are key. I did also give him some homeopathic cold medicine from Hylands one night but honestly I don't think it did anything so I only did it once.
Ear Infection: We actually didn't know he had an ear infection until his doctor told us. He hadn't been tugging at his ears or anything. I shared how we treated that without antibiotics on my Instagram so I'm just going to paste those stories here.
General: To help overall I continued to nurse at night. We only nurse at bedtime and I'm sure I don't produce that much anymore but I know even a little bit of milk helps and my body will take cues from him nursing to help produce antibodies. Our bodies are so neat! We also did lots of snuggles and relaxing.
We also used elderberry syrup. I buy my kit from Lindsey (@lindseyselderberryco) & it's super easy to make! I really suggest having it on hand.
Those are just the things we did to get through the virus. Below I have linked lots of resources from nurses and NP's to give you some more information should you encounter this.

itโs that time of year of year ๐ and Iโve been wanting to share these tips with yโall for a long time!
Disclaimer: not medical advice, and I havenโt personally gone through RSV with myself or a little but these were tips I researched and moms who had gone through it gave me!!!
I donโt know about yโall but Iโm seeing more and more of this pop up lately. Interestingly I found articles sharing predictions of increase in prevalence in 2021 and 2022 in babies after simulations were done of the ๐ฆ to predict seasons 2020 to 2025 ๐ง๐
Regardless, you will never regret feeling equipped at home โ๏ธ Check out these tips! What would you like to add to your list for prevention? And tag and share with a friend!

The cooler months are here which means RSV will begin to pick up. Though, with it being rampant this last summer who knows what itโll look like this winter. Both of my kids had RSV back in June, and we were able to deal with it at home, including for my high risk preemie baby.
I also have a highlight I made back when my kids had RSV, but I figured this deserves a permanent spot on my feed.
Please note that as always, this is not medical advice. These at home treatments are things I personally did for my kids as I felt comfortable. If you are unsure of supplement dosing or amounts, always ask your doctor (I personally would recommend a functional medicine doctor or naturopath)!
Other things to note:
๐๐ผWe use DoTERRA oils for their quality. They are pure and therapeutic grade.
๐๐ผWe get many of our supplements from Mary Ruths (code SADIE15) or Seeking Health code (sadieseptember)
